This year over a quarter of a million women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It is the second most prevalent cancer that American women suffer from and it will claim an expected 39,840 lives this year alone. The biggest weapon that we have in the fight against breast cancer is knowledge. Educating women on how to check for breast cancer, and ensuring that they see a medical professional regardless of their personal knowledge will ensure that women who are affected will be diagnosed early enough to have a positive outcome.

Signs That You May Need to See a Doctor about Breast Cancer

• Pain in the breasts
• Pain in the nipples
• Inwardly turned nipple
• A lump under your arm or on your breast
• Swelling of the breasts
• Discharge from the breasts other than breast milk
• Scaling or redness developing on the nipple or skin covering the breast

Women's Center Grand Opening

On October 20th, 2011 University Hospital and Medical Center hosted a pinked out breast cancer awareness event to share the importance of preventative breast health as well as to celebrate the grand opening of their new Women's Center.

$99 Mammograms were available for those who are looking to jump start their preventative care.

Top of the line surgeons and radiologists were on-site to meet and greet with guests and offer preventative health tips.

Highlights included pink hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, pink manis and pedis, relaxing massages, skin consultations, shopping, and a raffle & art auction with a portion of all proceeds going to Not My Daughter…find a cure now non-profit organization.
