Behavioral Health

University Pavilion is a beautiful free standing state of the art behavioral health facility located on the campus of University Hospital and Medical Center. The Pavilion features four units with 30 semi-private patient rooms, cafeteria, gym, pool, and indoor and outdoor group areas.

University Pavilion is staffed by over 13 physicians that specialize in Psychiatry, many are certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The Pavilion is also staffed by Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses who specialize in Psychiatric Nursing. In addition to the nurses and physicians, University Pavilion employs a team of allied professionals that includes Activity and Recreation Therapist, Addiction Professionals, Counselors, a Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologists, and Social Workers.

Every patient admitted to one of the inpatient programs at the Pavilion will participate in a physical assessment provided by a staff physician.

The Pavilion’s Respond Department

Staffed by behavioral health professionals the Pavilion’s Respond Service provides assessment 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assist in identifying individual’s behavioral health needs and to provide referrals to community resources, without charge or obligation. Young Inpatient Behavioral Health Services

Adolescents and children with behavioral and emotional disturbances have different needs than adults. University Pavilion provides treatment to young patients (ages 4 to 17) with acute conditions that require 24 hour supervision. Psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and recreational therapists assist patients with understanding mental illness, developing coping skills, and making better decisions.

Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Services

University Pavilion features three separate adult units to address the full spectrum of adult care. Inpatient Care is provided to patients with symptoms so severe they require 24 hour supervision and behavioral health treatment. The inpatient treatment helps stabilize, diagnose, and treat the condition. A full range of services including psychiatry, psychiatric nursing, counseling, psychotherapy and therapeutic activities are available to help patients develop strategies for minimizing symptoms, reducing stress, making better decisions, and coping with their emotions.

The Center for Geriatric Behavioral Health

The Center for Geriatric Behavioral Health is designed to treat and improve the lives of adults 65 years and older who are suffering from depression and other psychiatric diseases. Special care is taken to meet our patients emotional and physical needs to assure their safety and well-being while in our care. For the aging populations, The Center for Geriatric Behavioral Health offers two distinct programs; The Senior Adult Unit and the Senior Intensive Treatment Unit.

The Senior Adult Unit is designed for those who have a high degree of functioning prior to the onset of psychiatric symptoms. Our treatment programs focus on achieving stability and recovery in a relatively short stay.

The Senior Intensive Treatment Program is designed for patients who are in need of a more specialized course of treatment and typically stay an average of 10-12 days. Our team of dedicated professionals develop a course of treatment based upon the individual needs of the patient.

Treatment plans are closely monitored and updated as the patient progresses.

Electro-Convulsive Therapy

Electro-Convulsive a treatment option for patients with severe conditions that do not respond favorably to pharmacological interventions. Patients who believe they may benefit from this treatment should consult with their current provider of psychiatric treatment for advice on possible benefits from this option.

Partial Hospitalization Program & Intensive Outpatient Therapy

The PHP/IOP program provides comprehensive psychiatric care in a less restrictive environment than an inpatient program. Patients participate in treatment during the day and return home each afternoon. Treatment focuses on developing coping skills to deal more effectively with daily living, prevent relapse, and foster ongoing recovery.

Outpatient Detoxification Program

For people caught in the grips of substance abuse or dependency on alcohol, drugs or pain killers, life can be bleak, but help is available. This program is directed to people who are medically stable and can be safely detoxified while remaining in the setting in which they will function when drug free. Our program of therapy provides an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality provided by professionals experienced in the field of addictions.

Substance Abuse Program

All of University Pavilion’s programs are sensitive to the needs of patients with substance difficulties. The Pavilion also offers specialized outpatient programs for persons with substance difficulties. Mission

To help patients gain independence and control over their recovery from mental illness or substance dependence. The Pavilion staff is dedicated to ensure that each patient receives the services and support necessary to continue this recovery in their own community.

Insurance

Medically necessary procedures done on an outpatient basis are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurances and HMOs, although referrals may be required. The hospital’s outpatient registration staff will be glad to help you verify that your procedure is covered by your insurance provider.
